Welcome to Diana's Level 7-8 Writing class blog!

Here is your first assignment, due before class on Monday, March 23:

At your request, your first blog post will be about exercise and health. This is one of my favorite topics, too. Please talk about this topic, and use the following questions as a guide:

1. What do you do to stay healthy?
2. Do you eat healthy foods? If so, what kinds?
3. Do you exercise?  Do you enjoy exercising?
4. If so, what kinds of exercise do you do?

Please write between 5 to 10 sentences on this topic. Then, please write a sentence or two reacting to your classmates' comments.

    In my first journal I would like to say that I don't like to do so much exercise. But is a pleasure to take awareness about the important of do exercise.

    1- I have to say that I really lazy person to do exercise. i don't like to do exercise however, In colombia my friends and I wake up early on sunday in the morning and we go to running around the beach.it make me so happy and it is the best way to start my week.

    2- Yes, I love eat healthy food because my mom try that we always eat this kind the food. In colombia, we usually eat home food that is more healthy and everything is fresh, beside my mom loves eat fruit like orange and mango, this kind the fruit are commons in my country. In new york is a little bit difficult eat healthy food sometimes but I try to control me when I eat junk food on the weekends. In the week I love eat grapes between the foods is my favorite snack.

    3-Not, I don't like do exercise. But this weekend I want to try go to the gym with my friend. I hope that I can continuo do it even, when my friend come back to south carolina.

    4- I like running so much, this os one reason because i love so much summer time. In summer I can walk whenever I want and I can do different kind the things that can help to move my body a little bit. when I go to gym I'm usually like lift some weight but no so much.

    2. Eat home food is a good way to stay healthy, lower calories and more healthy. I hope I can eat home food everyday, but it's not easy for me to cook everyday. Because i'm too lazy...:(

  2. Healthy eating and exercise a deep link between them for good health. Every morning I practice walking an hour before reaching the school. Exercise of the things that enjoy doing and I believe that sport helps to serenity of mind and happiness of the soul. When I was in Saudi Arabia, I was doing exercises in the gym like Steps, Cardio,Body shaping ,and Yoga. on the other hand, I did not have a particular system in the eating. In addition, the fruits such as bananas,and drinking water daily an important things i have to do it. Finally, of good things for health, taking vitamin pills every morning and evening and exposure to the sun at the right times, and contemplation of nature.

    1. I like yoga too! I used to do it four times a week. It was very relax and good for the body. But I stopped after I came to New York. I should start it again. Also, drink a lot of water is a very good and easy way to be healthy!! Good points:)

  5. Healthy is very important for us, if we don't have a healthy body to enjoy our life, all the things that we do just become meaningless. Honestly, I don't like to do exercise, but when I was in senior year in high school, I was under a lot of pressure because I was facing College Entrance Examination. My friend suggested we can go to running around the playground, that is the only time that we can relax ourselves. I really enjoy that period, that exercise kept us healthy during the big street year. Another exercise that I love to do is playing badminton. I was playing badminton almost every PE class. Sometimes I also played badminton with my little brother, that is a good way to stop him play video games. Both of us all enjoyed playing it. Besides, eating nutritious food is also a necessary step to keep healthy. I love to eat fruit, now I am eating apple. I don't have a favorite fruit because I love all of them. But, both my brother and I don't like grains, so my mom will add some millet into rice or cook oatmeal. For me, that is the best way to make grains become delicious. In brief, to be healthy is everybody's wishes, hoping everyone can keep healthy.

    1. Your mother is very clever to make you eating grains, a very nice mother. Picky about food is not good, but it's good for you to accept grain, it's a very healthy food.

  6. Be healthy is very important to everyone. There are many ways to stay healthy. Like eat healthy foods, do exercises, sleep early, have spas and so on. I used to be very fond of eating healthy foods. I barely ate meats except fishes and shrimps before. Also, I ate many fruits and vegetables everyday and never ate after 8 pm. But after I came to New York, everything was changed. There are too many good restaurants and bakeries here. It’s a big temptation to me. As we all know, all the delicious foods don’t have low calories. Eat too much high calories foods is bad for health. In addition, It’s too easy to order deliveries in New York, even after midnight. I used to exercise a lot. I would run for 30 minutes at a time. I also used to practice yoga. It would be very relaxing. I really enjoy exercising. It gives me time to just think for myself. Now it is too difficult for me to start again. I hope i can start soon though, it makes me happy.

  8. Nowadays, healthy is a hot topic. More and more people promote healthy life. I know health is very important to our body. I like to eat healthy food, like mushroom, lettuce, eggplant. I heard that seafood is better than meat, so i choose fish instead of meat. However, i don't like to do exercise. Many friends told me exercise is necessary in our life. I try to do exercise but i usually can't insist on it. In last summer, my friends suggest me go to gym. The gym is in flushing and i need to take subway go there. I refuse it and choose to run nearby my home. I saw many people run on dusk. It's a good idea! I decided to try it! However, i just insisted on it two week then give up. I watch news about sport. It reported that professional found walk is best sport in the world. It is a good news to me. I like to walk and It’s easy to me. Every morning, I walk to the satiation to take subway. Health is very important to our. Now it’s March. Summer will coming. I maybe go to gym and do exercise. Maybe I will enjoy to do exercise in gym.

  9. 1. I think the sleep quality is very important for our health. Last year, I usually slept after 12 PM. It made me looked pale. So I sleep early in this year, and I am looked good than before. Sleep early also give me more energy during daytime. Intake the food which contains vitamins is also necessary. Therefore, I eat apple or orange everyday. I also have bad health habit. Such as a lack of exercise and irregular eating habits, and these bring some troubles for me.
    2. I think I have a good habit on eat. I like eat vegetables and fruits since I was a kid. I don't eat too much meat. Sweet food is popular for almost people, but I don't like sweets food. TCM holds that keep body warm is very important for health. So I am hardly eat cold food. Even in the summer, I never drink ice water. That's the reason why I bring hot water to class each day. :)
    3. I always exercise when I was in middle school. But now, I can't keep exercise regularity. You know, exercise alone in the gym is very boring. And I haven't regular exercise for a long time, so it become more tired than before. When I was in middle school, I felt relaxing after exercise. But now, I always feel fatigued.
    4.I enjoy ride bike, because it is interesting. I usually riding with my friends in the warm seasons. I had rent city bike last year, and I rode it in uptown. Riding bike is great exercise. Because you can also sightseeing in the meantime. It also can distract your attention from your numb limbs. So you can exercise more time when you are riding.

  10. 1. I don’t practice any of the ways you need to do to stay healthy. But I do my best, eating well in a balanced food like some vegetables, some carbohydrates, besides the proteins, I drink a lot of water to keep myself hydrated, I also try to avoid too much fries, I prefer everything cooked, and sometimes I do exercise too, for example I mostly walk every morning around 12 blocks to have my early workout while I get to the train station. This is what I do to stay healthy.

    2. Well, to be honest, I believe that my eating is healthy at least most of the time. Trying to have all the food pyramid. Fruit, vegetable, milk and proteins.
    My favorite fruit is apples and grapes. I love to make to myself a delicious salad with colorful vegetables like green, orange, red and yellow pepper, besides another ingredients like tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, baby spinach, lettuce, and sometimes red onions.
    About proteins I prefer to eat fresh fish, chicken, eggs and rarely red meat too.

    3. No, I don't for the moment. But i enjoy workouts and Pilates, I run, stretch my body, etc.

    4. When I run at the park I take little breaks to stretch my legs. I do pilates with machine and without it that helps me to keep a routine and discipline which I enjoy a lot.

  11. It sounds as though you all do lots of things to stay healthy. As many of you know, my favorite exercise is swimming. However, I really don't like to do it in New York in the wintertime. Even though I belong to a heated indoor pool in my neighborhood, it still makes me feel cold! So, I too am excited about the arrival of spring and the possibility of warmer weather soon.

    Like Gabriela, I also really enjoy doing Pilates, and I do that year round. I go to a mat class every weekend, and sometimes during the week if I have time.

    As some of you have mentioned, we get lots of exercise in New York just walking to and from the subway!

    I agree with all of your suggestions about healthy ( or healthful) foods. I also try to eat lots of fruits, vegetables, chicken and fish. However, I love desserts, especially chocolate. That is probably not good.

  13. Hi all
    Staying health is a bit challenging to me as I personally do prefer sleeping –even more than 8 hours per day – as this may help to get your overall immunity system and brain mood much more in power and ready for the big task ‘Studying ’. Health food is a critical part of my health body but the type of food differs. Generally speaking, I am quite obsessed with seafood like Salman and shrimp as they are unavoidable sources of energy which lasts longer. In this regard, my mom is a key master in doing many recipes using shrimp and Salman at home.
    Quite often I do physical exercise such as Yoga, but still on an elementary level. This exercise helps me much to relive daily stress.
